True, most people do not need to understand what a topological space is, or why certain functions are continuous and others not, or what the relevance of this idea is anyway; but knowing how to be quick with numbers, and understanding the nature of fractions and how they are used in the real world, as well as knowing the basics of geometry, are an absolute necessity to do better than average in this difficult world we live in.
