A History of New York - British Rule to the American Revolution (Part 2 of 3)
After the British took the New Netherlands colony from the Dutch, first in 1664 and again in 1674, New York as it was now known was in British hands for over one hundred years. Recipe for Success in Math
Obviously, math is important in the real world. What is amazing to me is how many people get by without an even basic understanding of this most helpful subject. True, most people do not need to understand what a topological space is, or why certain functions are continuous and others not, or what the relevance of this idea is anyway; but knowing how to be quick with numbers, and understanding the nature of fractions and how they are used in the real world, as well as knowing the basics of geometry, are an absolute necessity to do better than average in this difficult world we live in.

A Profile of the Panama Canal
If you study a profile of the Panama Canal you will be surprised and astounded at what little you knew about it. When a ship sails through the Panama Canal from the Atlantic Ocean to the east to the Pacific Ocean to the west, it actually exits the canal 27 miles east of where it entered! I bet that surprises you! I bet you thought it went from east to west. Well it doesn't. From the Atlantic side the Panama Canal travels from Northwest to Southeast due to the orientation of the Panama isthmus. Look at a map and that will explain it to you.

The City of Plovdiv
Plovdiv is probably the oldest city in Europe and has a history dating back over seven thousand years; it is also part of the birth of European civilisation. Seven thousand years ago the Thracian civilisation settled in Bulgaria and one place they settled is now the city of Plovdiv, the reason for this was due to the mountains and the River Maritsa.
