There are several reasons that quickly come to mind - we have to work too many hours per day, too many days per week, the pay stinks, the people that we work with are incompetent - just to name a few.

Does any one remember the theory (back in the 50s and 60s, I think), that stated that if the current trends continue the average worker will work 3-4 days per week; 6-8 hours per day. Whatever happened to that trend? Now the average worker spends 8 to 10 hours a day at work and another 1 to 3 hours commuting. After 8 hours of sleep (who gets that?) we are left with 4 hours to spend with our loved ones and what do we get to do then? At least half that time is spent taking care of ourselves and the household. What kind of quality time is that?

You know the saying – “It’s hard to soar with the eagles when you’re surrounded by turkeys.” What makes it more interesting is that not only am I thinking this about the people that I work with – they are thinking this about me. And heaven forbid we actually discuss the issue with the person that we disagree with. What has become of the concept of compromise? Why can’t we all just get along?

And then we really hate our primary job because if it paid better, I would have enough money to pay my bills and buy some of the things that I want and have more time to do what I want. And then I would be happier.

So, what is it that the American worker wants? We want to have more time for our families and friends and ourselves – Time Freedom. We want to work with people who are as competent as we are who will respect our opinion even if it differs from theirs – Idea Freedom. And finally, we want compensated fairly for the work that we do so that we can afford a decent lifestyle and don’t have to work 2 or 3 jobs just to make ends meet – Financial Freedom.
