    Google has just rolled out something called Universal Search. What is it, and how will it affect page rank, SEO Strategy and search engine positioning ? It is a fundamental change to the Google Algorithm or does it just add a few bells and whistles ?

    Well, it may be too early to tell for sure, but my best guess is that it is going to have a big impact on general types of informational search. How is shakes out in the long term for SEO, remains to be seen. The impact could be quite dramatic. I am a little concerned at this point, that it might complicate SEO Strategy and make our efforts more challenging.

    Right now, the results are only beginning to change certain types of searches. For example, if you search for the word “Gorilla” you will get a series of results on basic Gorilla information, followed by “Gorillaz” results, which is a virtual band, followed by news results for Gorilla.

    Frankly, I’m not very pleased to see alternative spelling results listed in the results search. I appreciate the spelling suggestions that Google makes at the top of the page, as long as they ask “Is this what you are looking for”, and it gives you a choice. I would prefer that Google not make misspelling assumptions for me, based on frequency of requests, and then display the results together with the correctly spelled results.

    Are we to assume that the future of Google will require webmasters to optimize their pages for misspellings as well as correct spellings of their keywords to maximize search engine position ? If this is a harbinger of things to come, I think Google should refine their algorithm to eliminate this possibility.
