Picking up from where Texas Holdem basics ended in part I, it's time to understand who plays first and what that player's options are in texas holdem poker.
Okay, the blinds have been anted up, and the hole cards have been dealt out by the dealer. The next step is to begin play. The player to the left of the big blind is the first to act. Remember, the small blind is to the left of the dealer, and the big blind is to the left of the small blind. Blinds are only posted at the beginning of a new hand. After the first round of betting, the player to the left of the button (dealer) acts first.
The player to the left of the big blind has three options to choose from during the first round of betting in texas holdem. He can fold, call (in this case, that would be matching the big blind), or he can raise the bet (double the big blind).
Everyone at the poker table has these same three options during the first round of betting. - fold, call raise - until the first round of bets is complete.

Once the first round of betting is taken care of, the dealer places three cards (the community cards) face up in the middle of the table. In texas holdem, all the players use these community cards to make their hands. The dealers placement of these three cards is called the flop.
The first player to the left of the button that hasn't already folded acts first in this round of betting. This player may fold, check (not bet but not fold either), or raise the bet. By checking, this player reserves the right to call a bet by another player later in this round.

After round two betting is complete the dealer flips over a fourth card to add to the previous three community cards in the middle of the table. This card is called either the turn or fourth street. Again, the first player to the left of the button that hasn't folded is first to act. Keep in mind that the stakes are now doubled in this round. We would be at the $4 bet in $2-$4 limit holdem poker.

After round three betting is complete the dealer flips over a fifth card to add to the previous four community cards in the middle of the table. This card is called either the river or fifth street. Again, the first player to the left of the button that hasn't folded is first to act.
If you are still in the hand, your poker hand is made up of the best five of the seven available cards (the five community cards plus your two hole cards in your hand).
