    How's Your HUB?
Marketing gurus are always coming up with new lingo but oftentimes they are restating the old tried and true concepts in new terms. Marketing students from the 70's and 80's will be familiar with the acronym USP. USP stands for your "Unique Selling Position" and it should be the cornerstone of your marketing.Today they use a different acronym and talk about your HUB. HUB is a good one because just like the hub of a wheel, the image is that your HUB is at the center of your all of your marketing. HUB stands for "Hottest Undeniable Benefit". What is the single most benefit that you provide for your clients? At Shamrock Business Coaching it is "increasing profits". Maybe you are in a highly competitive retail item business and the thing that distinguishes you from all the rest is that you provide "FREE overnight delivery". Maybe you have the worlds largest tech warehouse and you can make the claim unlike others that you "stock every computer part imaginable".Hottest Undeniable Benefit. Once you know your HUB it truly should be the center of your marketing. All of your marketing. Web site, informational brochure, postcards, flyers, promotional products, newspaper and radio ads....everything should include this HUB consistently. Even the way you market or introduce your self. 'Word of Mouth' is still one of the most effective marketing techniques, online or offline.Joe arrives at your website and he likes it. In fact, he'd like to tell Fred about it. It's just the thing Fred's been looking for. What if Joe could recommend your website to Fred by sending him an email straight from your website?Well, he can...if you have an 'email to a friend' script installed on your website. There are many free scripts that will do this for you. But the one I found easiest to install is a script developed by William Bontrager, called 'Master Recommend'.This one was easy. I had it working on my second attempt. You can see this script in action at: http://www.freezineweb.com/index.htmlBasically all you have to do is (1) configure the cgi script and upload it to your cgi bin, (2) create a new web page with a form that is linked to the cgi script on your server. You can download Master Recommend at: http://willmaster.com/master/recommend/mr.pl?v=zipTo get a detailed explanation of how to install it, visit: http://www.willmaster.com/master/recommend/MasterRecommend manual.htmlThis script will even send you a copy of your visitor's message (it's useful to know what your visitors think about your website). If you prefer not to have anAre your products or services geared towards only one target market? You can increase sales and profits by increasing your target markets. Below are some creative ways to increase your target markets by using your existing products and services you're selling right now.

      REDESIGN

You can increase your target markets by redesigning your products and services. For example: you're selling a book called "Internet Marketing Tips For Accountants" You could rewrite part of your book and call it "Internet Marketing Tips For Lawyers". You've now increased your target markets by redesigning your book.

      ADD-ON

You can increase your target markets by adding on other product or service with your main one. For example: if you're selling a football magazine you could add a free football when someone buys a subscription. You're now targeting people who want the football magazine and those that want to play football out in the yard. Sometimes they buy stuff just to get the freebies.

      TEAM-UP

You can increase your target markets by doing a cross promotion with a similar non-competeing businesses. For example: your business sells tennis rackets and you find another business to cross promote with that sells tennis balls. You could combine your racket and their balls in one package. You are now targeting people that need tennis rackets and balls.
