Small Business Starting - Finding Employees with Skills to Do the Work
Employee turnover is a problem for small businesses especially if they are experiencing budgetary restrictions. For this and other reasons, most small business owners want to match the right employee with the job. There are times when a position may require someone with special skills. When looking for people with special skills to do the work, the manager should place an ad in the local newspape

    The Innovation Mindset
Joe has been made redundant after many years in the company. He is the victim of cost-cutting, re-structuring, right-sizing, re-deployment...of a re-something. A friend comments: “There he goes. Poor Joe. 20 years of experience going out the window.” The re-engineering consultant overhears the comment and hits back: “There he goes: Joe, one year of experience repeated 20 times.”
If you read our previous article on medical billing and the CA1 record, you're aware that it needed to be sent under certain conditions. Well, the CB0 record follows the same procedure and is only sent under certain conditions, namely when a legal representative is involved. In order to understand when this record needs to be sent and what it is for, a little background is first in order.

Unfortunately, there are cases where a patient is treated for whatever the condition may be and they are unable to speak or write for themselves. In order to sign forms to authorize the surgery or procedure where there is no immediate family member responsible for the person, such as a mother, father, son, daughter, or even brother or sister, a legal representative must be given power of attorney in order to authorize the surgery or procedure. Usually, this is set up beforehand, but many times this is done at the last minute. When this occurs, an indicator must be flagged in the CA0 record in field 25 and when this happens, a corresponding CB0 record must be electronically transmitted giving the legal representative's information. We're going to cover this record in detail here.

Just as an aside; this is very similar to where in the United States, should the president have to go in for surgical procedure and is going to be knocked out for a period of time, a signed letter must be in his desk, handing over the presidency to the vice president during the time that the president is under. If the president had no living relatives, most likely the vice president would be the legal representative if this claim needed to be billed. This of course is a very special case.

CB0 field 1, positions 1 - 3, is the record type and must be filled in with CB0 or the claim will be denied. It is important to note that even though with medical billing in many cases multiple records of one type can be sent, like multiple DA records, only one CB0 record may be transmitted. There can only be one legal representative.

A Good Business Environment Attracts Residents to New Hampshire
People have for decades made jokes about New Hampshire's state motto, "Live Free or Die", making the connection between the saying and New Hampshire residents' famous - or infamous - resistance to broad-based taxes like income and sales taxes. New Hampshire has also been skewered about its reliance on so-called "sin taxes", including room and meals taxes and levies on booze and cigarettes. The state

If You Need Surgery, Call in the Surgeon
When you need a heart by-pass, you call in a cardiologist rather than a general practitioner. When you are in legal troubles, you consult a lawyer. When you have tax problems, you seek advice of a tax consultant. Yet many troubled companies make the fatal mistake of not approaching the right professional for help. Many try to get out of their conundrum using the internal management. Others r

    Designing the Perfect Business Card
I’ve been a designer and advertising consultant for over 35 years. I’ve seen my share of business cards and I have a few words addressed to those companies that might benefit from my expertise. I’m not talking to those professionals that are categorized by attorneys, physicians, dentists, insurance agents and accountants. You’ve seen their cards that are traditional black raised print on a white unc

CB0 fields 4, 5 and 6, positions 23 - 55, are the legal representative's name fields, which are last, first and middle initial respectively. These must be the legal representative's legal name at birth and not a nickname.

CB0 fields 7 - 11, positions 56 - 146, are the legal representative's address fields. All fields must be filled in except address line two, which in many cases does not exist.

CB0 field 12, positions 147 - 163, is the legal representative's phone number and must be entered in without any dashes, special characters or spaces.

CB0 field 13, positions 164 - 320, is filler national and is to be left blank.

Many people are surprised when doing medical billing how many claims actually require this record. Sadly, there are way too many cases where a legal representative is needed.
