Actual for You - Why Are Relationships Such Hard Work?
Public Speaking from Dull to Dynamic t;Here are some speaking tips when you're forced to present on a dull topic.INTERACTIVE:1. Activity: Since you're talking about Fraud & Risk let the audience FEEL what they are learning. Example: 1) Put a note in an envelope that reads, "This is a bill. You owe Phinda $100." 2) Tape the note under one of the chairs in the presentation room. 3) Early in your session say, "Raise your hand if you would like a crisp $100 bill. I'm serious if you want a $100 bill I will show you how to get it in the next 10 seconds 4) Have everyone look under their chair. 5) Ask the "winner" to come to the front with the envelope. 6) Let them open and read it. 7) The crowd boos you and you say, "Hmmmm. It looks like somebody got ripped off. We would call that fraud. And that's what we are here today to learn about."2. Audience Participation: Ask for input from the class if there is time. Example: "I need one person to share a time when they took a foolish risk, and one person to share a calculated risk." After they share blend their comments into your presentation. "Notice that Jeff said it was foolish to jump off his two story home when he was twelve. Look closely at your notes. If you do not have these procedures in place, it will be much worse than a two story leap."PRACTICAL:1. Day to day. Can the information be applied outside the work place? Example: "The next time you go and buy a car think about this session. DO NOT ignore the fine print. Memorize section 3 - 2. It can be applied to every major purchase and will prevent you from being taken advantage of."2. How it plays a part. Help the student see how this information keeps their company functioning safely and thus keeps their paychecks rolling in on a regular basis. Example: "Without these directives in place, allow me to share w How does this play out in our careers? Personally, I was able to spin out the self-delusion for quite some time. I'd joined the Army at 20, mainly because I "didn't know what I wanted to do". And when the little inside voice asked what was going on I was able to put it off until 'later'. John Lennon is attributed to having said, "Life is what Infomercials and Direct Response 1. The Wishes. Infomercials changed the way advertisers sell things on television. Previously, product manufacturers merely presented their wares on TV in the most attractive manner they could come up with. They planted ideas, sought to change habits or to create them where none existed. They expanded market share subtly with one common unifying factor – you watched the commercial and if you liked what you saw you went to the store or the showroom and bought it. From now on television would be different. Infomercials and direct response marketing was born. Now if you liked what you saw, thought it was just the right product, idea or concept for you, you picked up the phone, called the number on your screen and ordered what you wanted direct from the manufacturer. It’s hard to imagine in today’s internet world with overnight deliveries and instantly downloads, but for the very first time you could order something off your TV set without even getting up from your favorite chair. It was unbelievable, magical, and very successful. Almost overnight phone banks sprang up all over the country as the call volume, once numbering in the thousands, surged into the millions. Like Internet domain names today, 800 numbers became a vanity item – the most popular ones disappearing as fast as they became available. Previously only used in magazine advertisements or mail order brochures, the phone business became a very big business with the success of infomercials. To begin with, infomercials and direct response TV selling give a manufacturer an immediate tool to measure whether or not his product, his pricing and even his approach is working. Previously, manufacturers had to create their product, get it into stores where it would be available for purchase on a nationwide basis and then and only then, launch a costly nationw If I only had a dollar for every time I've wanted to walk away from my marriage, I'd probably be sunning myself on the beach in Rio de Janeiro by now. But after 31 years with the same woman, I know that even with my megabucks and all the trimmings that wealth can bring, deep down I'd be feeling that something was missing somehow. Someone once said that the only thing worse than wanting something was getting it. When I heard that first, in the folly of my youth, it didn't make much sense to me. Nowadays, being in the situation of knowing how little I know, it seems quite profound. Have you ever noticed how the warm fuzzy feelings of getting what you want fade pretty soon afterwards? How long does the euphoria really last? How long does the acquisition stay NEW? If it is a new car, perhaps only as long as that unique smell that comes with it. So what comes next? "Just wait until the new car arrives." "Once I get the boss's job, then things will be great." And sure, after you've got it, for a while anyway, things may indeed be great. But how do you feel after a week, or a month? Does the hunger set in again? Do you start looking for the next "When I get…" How does this play out in our careers? Personally, I was able to spin out the self-delusion for quite some time. I'd joined the Army at 20, mainly because I "didn't know what I wanted to do". And when the little inside voice asked what was going on I was able to put it off until 'later'. John Lennon is attributed to having said, "Life is what h Writing Articles to Tear at the Heart of the Human Belief System .As an online writer my most favorite articles to write are those that make you think and tear at the belief system of the individual. I mean really rip them hard. But why do I enjoy this so much? Hard to say, perhaps I do not like unearned arrogance, expert status or religious authority? Who knows I think it is funny to watch them squirm either way.Of course as an online article writer who often submits his articles to online article submission sites I have found folks in their infinite anger and hypocrisy of their religion go and rate all my articles with a one star. Right down the list. With 7,500 articles now, you can just imagine how long that would take. So they start and get to about 30 and quit; ha, so much for self-control, perseverance and loving thy neighbor? So, typical of you weak humans, not very impressive I tell you.I was told by an online article submission site entrepreneur that; If you write articles to "tear at the heart" of their belief system, surely it should not surprise you if they are angry with you.No, certainly I am not surprised at all, but their anger does not justify an attack, it is something they must deal with internally not give it a one-star because I am of a different Religion or Belief? I fully expect them to be somewhat upset, but that is good for them, because most people with a strong belief system go around picking on people. Therefore I am simply showing them the mirror, Not necessarily looking to have them contact me, comment or go thru all my articles until they get tired of it giving them all one stars? Anyway you understand. Consider all this in 2006. Someone once said that the only thing worse than wanting something was getting it. John Lennon is attributed to having said, "Life is what Being On-line Connects Us Off-line t;Pew Internet & American Life Project has studied the ‘dreadful’ way the Internet isolates people from their friends and family. They’ve found not only does it not cut us off from our friends, it actually increases connectedness. ‘Rather than conflicting with people’s community ties, we find that the Internet fits seamlessly with in-person and phone encounters.’ They also report of ‘media multiplexity’, where people who connect on the Internet are more likely to see each other in person and talk on the phone.http://www.pewInternet.org/reports.asp also report a few things I’ve noticed but without thinking about too much. The Internet and cellular phones link individuals more than buildings. If I visit someone at home or talk to them using a phone landline, I reach a house. If I email or call a cellular phone, I am contacting an individual wherever they are.Another result of Internet connectedness are the positive effects of the wider social network cultivated by this new medium. This wider network gives people access to a greater range of people when dealing with serious life events. A few times I’ve seen someone in an on-line group announce that they have a life-threatening illness. Many people offer support and comfort, and often one or more of the ‘comforters’ have survived the same illness, offering hope and good News as well as practical help and advice. The Pew Internet research shows that email is good for connecting with people regardless of geographical distance. We all know it is great for connecting with friends in other countries, but this research shows it is just as good with the people we see in-person every week. Email helps people connect with each other’s lives, which directly promotes more frequent in-per How does this play out in our careers? John Lennon is attributed to having said, "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." My ‘later’ lasted for 22 years. 2. The Illusion. "WHAT does this have to do with relationships?" I hear you ask. Well, the same rationale that we use to tell ourselves that "..It will be OK when…" is the same mechanism that we apply to our relationships. "When she starts to….", or "When he learns to…"; then I will be happy. Always looking for something or someone out there to make us happy. We start off by "Falling in Love" with someone who is everything we ever dreamed of. Apart from being the most beautiful / handsome person we have ever met, they also have the cutest habits. They are warm, caring, gentle, kind, sensitive etc., etc…. What is even more wonderful, they seem to return the affection. Along with this nonsense comes the totally fatuous notion that he / she "makes me so happy." And how the musicians and poets milk this to death. One song line actually goes "You know you make me feel like you know I ought to." The tragedy about this situation is that it is a complete ILLUSION, a total MYTH. "Romantic Love" is only the kindergarten of our learning journey. At first we see it as the be all and end all, but of course, when put to the test of marriage or even cohabitation, it just doesn't survive. So why do we do it? Why
