    Step 6: Start your Book Proposal

    Both the query letter and the proposal are crucial to getting a response from an agent or publisher. While you write your book, it is a good idea to also be writing your proposal to send any agents or editors who “nibble” at your query.

    Your proposal may begin as your outline, but you will expand it to about 75-100 pages to include the marketing comparison, outline, synopsis, author bio, marketing plan you gathered earlier.

    There are several key components to a good book proposal:

    a. Table of Contents for the proposal (it could have 75-100 pages)

    b. Opening remarks to introduce the book. Use the same style of writing you used in the book.

    c. Market comparison (from class one)
